The construction of artesian wells in Iraq is a crucial technology for ensuring access to groundwater resources, particularly in areas where rainfall is limited or irregular. These wells draw water from underground aquifers that are under natural pressure, providing a reliable water source.
Artesian wells play a vital role in Iraq by securing drinking water and supporting agriculture. The country faces significant challenges related to water scarcity, especially in arid regions and areas reliant on the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. These wells provide a stable water supply, which is essential for both the local and IDP populations, as well as for agricultural activities. In areas where access to surface water is limited or where water quality is poor, artesian wells serve as a sustainable alternative to traditional water sources.
With financial support from the Slovak Development Assistance Program, SlovakAid, we are currently constructing a new well in the village of Hizawa in Zakho.
